Travel Tuesday: Thomas Jefferson Memorial
Washington, DC celebrated its famous Cherry Blossom Festival last weekend. People from around the globe throng to our nation’s capitol at any time of year, but especially so during this festival. Cherry blossoms, kites soaring, the finest museums, the monuments and memorials, the gardens, the shaded parks along the river, the national cemetery at Arlington, and so much more gives the traveler much to explore, to see, and to do. Each time we visit, we are awed by the vastness of its treasures, and we are aware when we depart that we left much unseen once again.
On the northeast portico of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial is an excerpt of a quote, further excerpted here: “…God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God?…”. President Jefferson, statesman and visionary, reminds us of our common values and the faith behind the values he treasured.
