Don’t you love beautiful surprises? I love cards in the mail for no reason, when a neighbor brings freshly baked cookies to share, seeing an unexpected meteor. Surprises, the good kind, remind me of the love I have in my life, the goodness of people, the beauty of the world, and God’s grace. Just this past week I was in Texas again. I was visiting San Angelo, the center of Texas, to see my son graduate from military training. I didn’t have much time there and no idea of what photo opportunities would be available, other than seeing my son of course. The City of San Angelo International Waterlily Collection, though, was a delightful surprise with more than 200 kinds of waterlilies displayed. There were several pools, each filled with gorgeous lilies, some small, some larger.
Coming upon such treasures unexpectedly and being able to capture that moment is one of the joys of photography for me. Capturing the moment, that point when a child smiles and her eyes light up brilliantly, still (and always will) brings me joy and a sense of awe. It could be amazing nature, expressions of people, or the lines of a building that bring me a sense of pleasure. I find such moments throughout my day.
What in your life brings such feelings to you?
